The same story, different chapter
Maybe it’s the fight you and your spouse have had a hundred times with slightly different words. Maybe you go quiet and resentful instead of saying what you need. Maybe it’s a mother you can’t set a boundary with, an adult child you’re afraid of losing, a friendship that only takes, or a dating history that keeps landing you in the same place with different people.
Relationships are where our oldest patterns run deepest. Individual therapy is a place to look at those patterns honestly, without blame, and decide what’s yours to change.
What we work on
This is individual therapy, focused on you and the relationships that matter to you:
- Recurring conflict, and what’s really being fought about underneath the surface issue
- Boundaries with partners, parents, in-laws, and grown children, without the guilt that has stopped you before
- Saying the hard thing clearly, and hearing hard things without shutting down or blowing up
- People-pleasing and noticing where you disappear in relationships
- How the family you grew up in shaped what feels normal
- Separation, divorce, and co-parenting with your dignity intact and your kids protected
- Getting clear enough to make a stay-or-go decision you can live with
If the relationship strain is coming from a bigger change in your life, the life transitions counseling page covers divorce and family-role shifts in more depth. If you’re caring for a family member and it’s wearing on the relationship, see therapy for Houston caregivers.
Why individual work helps a relationship
You can’t drag someone else into growth. But when one person starts responding differently, calmer and clearer and less reactive, the whole dynamic shifts. Sometimes that heals the relationship. Sometimes it shows you plainly what it is. Either way you end up with more of yourself.
Online, on your terms
Sessions are by secure video. For relationship work in particular, privacy matters. You can meet from a place where you can speak freely, at a time that doesn’t require explaining where you’re going.
Book an online session for relationship concerns, or send Laura a note with a question first. Costs are on the insurance and fees page.
