Therapy insurance and fees in Houston
Money shouldn't be the reason you don't start. I'm in-network with two major insurers, private pay is straightforward, and every option is priced up front through Headway before your first session, not after.
In-network
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas
BCBSTX is the most common employer plan in the Houston area. Many Medical Center hospital systems, school districts, city and county employees, and energy companies offer it.

Cigna
Cigna is common among Houston's corporate employers, particularly in energy, engineering, and professional services, and through many mid-size company plans.

Pay per session through Headway. Rates are shown before you book.
How billing works
- 1. You book on Headway and enter your insurance, or choose private pay.
- 2. Headway verifies your benefits and shows your exact per-session cost.
- 3. After each session, Headway bills your insurer and charges only your share to the card on file.
- 4. No invoices from me, no claims to file, no surprise balance later.
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
Under the federal No Surprises Act, health care providers must give clients who don't have insurance, or who choose not to use it, an estimate of the expected cost of care.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of non-emergency services, including psychotherapy.
- You can ask for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service, and it will be provided in writing at least one business day before the service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.

Insurance and fees: common questions
Which insurance plans do you accept?
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and Cigna. Billing runs through Headway, which verifies your specific plan and tells you your copay or coinsurance before the first session. If you're unsure whether your plan is covered, Headway can check in about a minute.
What if I have a different insurance?
You can pay privately through Headway. Some plans reimburse part of out-of-network therapy. Ask your insurer about out-of-network mental health benefits and whether they accept superbills.
How much does a session cost without insurance?
Private-pay rates are shown on Headway before you book. REVIEW: add the current rate once Laura confirms it, e.g. "$XXX per 50-minute session."
Will my insurance know I'm in therapy?
When insurance is billed, the insurer receives a diagnosis code and the dates of service. That's required for reimbursement. If you'd prefer that nothing goes to your insurer, private pay keeps everything between us.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
Under the federal No Surprises Act, anyone not using insurance has the right to a written estimate of expected costs before starting care. If you choose private pay, I'll provide one, and you can ask for it at any time.
Do you offer a sliding scale?
REVIEW: confirm with Laura whether any reduced-fee slots are offered and on what basis.
Cost shouldn't be the barrier
